hi all

the battery light comes on and the battery is now flat as its not charging, i have had the battery tested and checked timing belt, i have been told rhat it could be the alternator.

can i change the brushes and or regulator to resolve the problem? any idea of what that is likely to cost.

AND HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!!!!

Hi And welcome to the site

You say the battery has been checked ! what was done to check the battery ? and results?? and the timing belt has nothing to do with charging, but before you do anything with the alternator, check out all the wiring relating to charging, make sure all connections are sound and there is no broken or shorting cables.

Poss it could be the brushes and or regulator, but again there could be other things in the alternator, like wires burnt out, so I would check out the external wiring, then just get a Alternator and fit the whole thing, and hope that cures it, if not take into a garage and let them diagnose the problem.

If this is a MK2

Check out the auxiliary fuse box next to battery you may have the dreaded meltdown.
